这是章振邦语法书上的，其他人都说是错的，说原形是I was so hungry I could have eaten a horse.
少见则多怪。that在非正式语体可以用作程度副词，修饰形容词或副词。所以 I was that hungry是没问题的，问题是that hungry能否后接结果状语从句。我在COCA语料库找到类似例句，说明that+形容词+结果状语从句是可以用的，只不过不如so+形容词+（that）结果状语从句容易见到罢了。一般语法书的例句不会是作者随意撰写的，一般都是有出处的，所以不应该随便质疑语法书例句的正确性。下面是COCA例句：
